The Confident and Healthy Girl campaign was introduced by Kkuza Children’s Foundation as a response to the problem of lack of sanitary towels for young girls during their menstruation periods. With the help of the organization’s community mobilizer Mr. Nsereko and the Head teacher Mr. Sangala Mahad of Trinity Nursery and primary school, during needs assessment that was carried out about girl child education in Butambala, it was found out that many young girls in the villages of Lugali, Lwamasaka, Tufube and Kasozibabenga do not have what to use during their menstruation periods due to the financial inaccessibility of these materials which has led to many girls missing school due to fear of embarrassment from other students and boys, resulting into poor academic performance and hence dropping out of school. This later prompted the Kkuza Children’s Foundation to intervene by educating these girls about menstruation and its management and other important issues concerning girl child empowerment. A lot had to be done about this and therefore Kkuza Children’s Foundation provided sanitary pads (reusable and disposable) pads to the girls.
