"Heights to the generation"

Najjuko Gorret’s Story

My name is Najuko Gorret, and I’m 19 years old. Losing my dad at 14 was a tough blow, leaving my mum as the sole caregiver for our family of five. The financial strain was overwhelming, and despite her best efforts, we struggled to make ends meet. When I reached primary six, mum had to make a heartbreaking decision  prioritize the education of my younger siblings over mine. I understood her choice, but it was hard to accept.

Years went by, and life at home remained challenging. However, I never lost sight of my dreams. When I heard about Kkuza Children’s Foundation’s Skilling Center, offering free vocational training for victims and survivors of teenage pregnancy, I knew it was a golden opportunity. I enrolled in the tailoring program, determined to acquire a lifelong skill and turn my life around.

As one of the pioneers of this incredible initiative, I’m thrilled to be graduating in June this year. My goal is to start my own tailoring business and support my mum, helping to take care of my siblings and contribute to our household.

To my fellow teenagers, I want to say: don’t lose hope. Don’t trade your future for fleeting pleasures or a quick fix. Trust that your time is coming. God’s plans for you are bigger and brighter than any challenge you’re facing.

To Kkuza Children’s Foundation, I say thank you! Your support has been a beacon of hope for girls like me. May God bless you abundantly and expand this center to reach more vulnerable girls.

I’m proud to be part of this journey, and I’m excited for what’s next!
